TCF is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas – a city, county and state with one of the highest rates of food insecurity in the nation. With agriculture contributing to approximately 16% of Arkansas’ overall economy, 1 in 4 children in Arkansas still experience food insecurity. Poor nutrition and lack of physical activity have led to an alarming rate of childhood obesity in the state. This demonstrates the absence of purchasing power and adequate education to improve nutrition and wellness for families in Arkansas.

Our immediate neighborhood consists of ~7,000 residents within a one-mile radius of TCF. Of these neighbors ~2,700 are living below the poverty level, with ~650 households enrolled as SNAP participants (U.S. Census Bureau). Located within this one-mile radius of our farm are three food pantries and two elementary schools with the highest rates of free/reduced school lunch. The majority of this population lacks the knowledge and resources for how to grow and prepare their own food and have limited access to affordable, locally grown produce.

The solution is simple; increase access to healthy, affordable food and teach others to do the same.
