DESCRIPTION:"Organic or ecological pest control in fruit in the southeastern United States is quite difficult due to a climate and environment conducive to diseases and pests\, a situation often made worse by trying to grow varieties of non-native fruits poorly adapted to our conditions. \nNevertheless\, with a) the right varieties of the right species\, b) an understanding of pest and disease life cycles\, and c) a knowledge of what organic strategies and materials are available\, gardeners and farmers can grow an abundance of nutritious fruit for their families and communities." \nOur fabulous presenter\, Guy King Ames\, 66\, has been growing fruit organically in the Ozarks for more years than he wants to think about. DESCRIPTION:Join Brandon Weston of Mountain Man Traditional Healing for a discussion of traditional plant-based and magic-based folk healing methods in the Ozarks. We will be looking at source material provided by folklorists like Mary Parler\, Vance Randolph\, Otto Ernest Rayburn\, etc. and from living healers and folk doctors. With plant-based healing we will look at traditional herbalism\, herbal remedies/preparations\, and the materia medica of the Ozark people. In the magic-based healing section we will look at practices that do not involve the direct use of medicinal plants and minerals. DESCRIPTION:JOIN YOUR NEIGHBORS AT TRI CYCLE FARMS ON MARTIN LUTHER KING\, JR NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND AT THE STONE SOUP COMMUNITY MEAL. \nDr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said\, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is\, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Against what seemed like impossible odds\, Dr. King and scores of his fellow citizens of all races came together and\, ultimately\, helped bend the moral arc of the universe toward justice. \nAt noon on Monday\, January 15\, 2018\, volunteers will be honoring Dr. King’s legacy by cleaning up the garden at Tri Cycle and the yard at Trinity United Methodist Church from noon until 3pm. Afterward\, we’ll all come together for a community meal in Trinity’s Fellowship Hall\, provided by Ozark Natural Foods and Rockin’ Baker\, and cooked and served by the members of “Food Not Bombs.” \nWe’d love to share the day with you! He went on to obtain his MBA from UCLA and pursued a career in corporate finance and personal money management. In 1993\, with a new home in Ojai\, CA and an acre of land peppered with fruit trees\, Patrice had his first vegetable garden. There it was: heart-shaped and barely 100 square-feet\, and with it\, a deep life transformation of the most gentle and unexpected kind. \n\n\nToday\, many seasons and thousands of hours of raking\, hoeing\, mulching and harvesting later\, Patrice’s gardening passion is alive and well; only the scale has changed. Patrice now runs Foundation Farm\, a 5 acre certified organic farm in the Arkansas Ozarks not far from Eureka Springs. The farm is a no-till\, highly sustainable\, organically certified operation which supports his family. All of the farm’s 25\,000 lbs of produce harvested yearly are sold within a 50 mile radius. The farm attracts many visitors and groups. The farm crew is a mixture of volunteers and season-long trainees enrolled in Foundation Farm’s farming school. \n\n\nPatrice is also the founder of the Eureka Springs Farmers’ Market.

DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars! It's Seed Exchange time again! Bring seeds to share and trade\, or just check out the variety! We will have seed swappers\, live plants\, music\, and light refreshments. The seed swap is free and courses carry a suggested donation. \nWe will hold our open seed exchange from 10:00am-2:00pm in the Fellowship Hall of Trinity United Methodist Church at 1021 Sycamore St\, across the street from Tri Cycle Farms. \nDuring our 2017 Seed Exchange\, we will offer three classes.
